The purpose of this page is to help you organise your learning in Psychology.
The log highlights key dates for assessments as well as a plan for your independent revision sessions until the exams.
There is also Psychology Clinic which runs every Monday for re-sits and revision in R25 with Miss Gomes and every Wednesday for general exam help in R24 with Mrs Jervis. Both sessions run from 1.00pm-1.55pm.

How do you learn best?
Metacognition and self-regulation are strategies which have been proven to improve pupil achievement in A level Psychology.
What is metacognition?
Metacognition is knowledge and understanding of our own cognitive processes and abilities and those of others, as well as regulation of these processes. So, in other words, it’s about knowing how you learn best and applying these learning strategies to help you achieve your full potential!
At the heart of self-regulation are three essential skills:
- Planning involves working out how a task might be approached before you do it.
- Monitoring refers to the pupil’s on-task awareness of progress, comprehension and overall performance.
- Evaluation requires the student to review the outcomes and efficiency of the learning experience.
Succeeding in A level psychology involves much more than simply accumulating facts – you must be able to be reflective, be critical when evaluating different sides to an argument, and use problem-solving tactics to come up with a solution to several issues surrounding explanations for human behaviour.
So, how can YOU begin being a meta-cognitive learner?
You can start by planning the learning strategies you need to use before you begin a task. Once you have completed a task, spend some time monitoring your progress and evaluate how well you were able to tackle the task, recognising your strengths and weaknesses as a learner. This might seem like a waste of time for a very busy A-level student, however, being able to do this WILL help you to improve and, as a result, be able to tackle exam skills within psychology more effectively.

In order to achieve full marks in any of your psychology exams, you need to determine what Assessment Objectives are being tested:
- AO1 skills test knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures
- AO2 skills require application of knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, processes, techniques and procedures: • in a theoretical context • in a practical context • when handling qualitative data • when handling quantitative data.
- AO3 skills require analysis, interpretation and evaluation of scientific information, ideas and evidence, including in relation to issues, to: • make judgements and reach conclusions • develop and refine practical design and procedures

In order to achieve top grades in your psychology exams, it is crucial that you play an active role in the assessment process. Being able to use the mark schemes to self-assess your work will enable you to learn the qualities of good work, how to judge your work against these qualities, how to step back from your work to assess their own efforts and how to set personal goals.
